Who we are

Hexa Sociology is an educational website for the UPSC Sociology Optional and a reference on sociology, published at hexasociology.com. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Hexa Sociology. For any question about your privacy, write to us at hello@hexasociology.com.

The short version

  • You don’t need an account to use this website, and we never ask for a password or payment details here. Course payments happen on our separate learning platform, not on this site.
  • We only run analytics if you click Accept on the cookie banner. Decline, and nothing is tracked.
  • The only personal information we actively collect is what you type into a signup or download form — your email, and optionally your WhatsApp number.
  • We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not run ads.

What we collect, and why

Information you give us

When you use a signup form, request the free starter kit, or unlock a downloadable PDF, we collect your email address and, if you choose to add it, your WhatsApp number. We also record which page you submitted from. We use this only to send you sociology study material, preparation guidance, and updates about our course. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Information collected automatically (only with your consent)

If you click Accept on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4to understand how the site is used — for example which pages are read most, the kind of device, and approximate location (country or city, derived from your IP address, which we ask Google to anonymise). This helps us improve the content. If you click Decline, or simply ignore the banner, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is collected. You can change your mind at any time — see Your choices and rights. We do not use analytics for advertising.

Information stored on your device

Some features save small amounts of data in your browser’s local storage — on your device only, never sent to us:

  • your cookie-consent choice, so we don’t ask again;
  • your flashcard revision progress;
  • whether you have unlocked PDF downloads.

You can clear these at any time through your browser settings.

Server logs

Like all websites, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information such as IP address and browser type, for security and reliability. These are standard server logs.

Who we share information with

We don’t sell or rent your information. We rely on a small number of trusted service providers that process data on our behalf:

  • Google Analytics— website usage statistics, only after you consent.
  • Google Sheets and Google Apps Script— where your form submissions (email, WhatsApp) are stored so that we can contact you.
  • Vercel— our website hosting provider.

Each processes data under its own privacy terms. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep the contact details you give us for as long as you wish to hear from us, or until you ask us to delete them. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ settings. You can ask us to remove your details at any time.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Withdraw analytics consentat any time — clear your browser’s site data for hexasociology.com and the consent banner will appear again so you can choose Decline, or use your browser’s privacy settings.
  • Unsubscribe from our messages using the opt-out in any message, or by emailing us.
  • Ask to see, correct, or deletethe personal information we hold about you — email hello@hexasociology.com and we will act on your request.

Where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 or other applicable law gives you further rights over your data, we honour them.

Children

This website is intended for exam aspirants and a general adult audience. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we hold, and we collect as little as possible. No method of transmitting data over the internet is completely secure, but we work only with reputable providers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the website evolves. We will change the “last updated” date at the top, and any significant change will be reflected here.
